Michael is a spirit of light within the luminous sphere of the sun. In the Qabbalistic teachings he is called "Like Unto God". In stories of Michael, he inherited many of the myths and attributes of Hermes, Mercury, Thoth, and Heimdall. In biblical stories, Archangel Michael was the leader of the angelic army during the war in heaven. With "words of power" he defeated the rebellious troops and propelled them down into the underworld.
