Spider Woman

To the Pueblo Indians, Spider Woman is the Creator of the Universe. She began by spinning two treads, east-west and north-south. She produced two daughters who made the sun and moon. She made the people from yellow, red, black, and white clay. In Europe she was called Athene, spinner of fate who bore the name of Arachne in a spider incarnation.
